So far this beautiful summer weather has been great for getting in long runs and lots of bike riding. I picked up a new Garmin a couple of months ago, and it has been a real treat to log my runs and bike rides on the Garmin site. It’s almost like having a virtual partner (although I’m thankful for my real running partners too).
This summer also sees me completing my Master Degree; I only have a couple of weeks left, and lots of work between now and then! I am off now for a 10 km run before class!
This summer will mark the completion of my Master’s Degree! Yipee! I’ve really enjoyed the courses and the people I’ve met during my years at St. Augustine’s and The University of Toronto, but it will be very nice to have completed the degree.
Along with completing my degree, I will be training this summer for another October Marathon!
I just read this report at Catholic News Agency. I’m really not surprised by Lady Gaga’s public misuse of Catholic imagery; as the article points out there is a long history of abuse of Christianity, and the Catholic Church in particular, in Hollywood. Just off the top of my head I remember the following few for being either overtly hostile toward the Church, or for misusing Christian icons in their work: Madonna (of course), Sinead O’Connor, Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osborn. There are a host of others.
I purchased From Aristotle to Darwin and Back Again: A Journey in Final Causality a few weeks ago. It is written by the late 20th century philosopher Etienne Gilson. It explores the notion of final causality, teleology, underscoring the evidence that an intelligent creator, with design, created the universe. A wonderful work which exposes the truth that modern Darwinists have ignored teleology, the cornerstone of Aristotelian philosophy, all together.
This article in today’s National Catholic Register explores the ongoing misconception within the scientific community that theology is incompatible with science.
Having been raised in and influenced by Evangelical Christianity (Pentecostalism) for the first twenty-two years of my life, the theology that sells books like Tim Lahey’s ‘End Times’ series and other such work is not new to me. Today I read an excellent article by Carl E. Olson (another former Evangelical) on the topic. I found his essay to be an excellent explanation of the Church’s Eschatology. This morning’s National Post runs the story of Cardianl Marc Ouellet, who has been lambasted by the Canadian press for reiterating Church teaching regarding abortion. Parti Quebecois leader Paulin Marois is ‘completely outraged’, and Patrick Lagace, a columnist with Montreal’s La Press hopes that the Cardinal dies of a ‘long and painful illness’. Marianne and I enjoyed another wonderful weekend facilitating a Marriage Encounter Weekend at Queen of Apostles Renewal Centre in Mississauga. It is always an enriching retreat working with other married couples who are working toward deepening the gift of Sacramental Marriage. Marriage Encounter is not for ‘troubled’ marriages, but for couples seeking to deepen their relationship and devote time to strengthening and enriching the gift that they already have in one another.
If you have any questions about Marriage Encounter, email me or check out the links embedded in this post.
I came across this article this morning. It’s a good read, and puts some perspective on the attraction of ‘Prosperity Gospel’ and the watered down version of spirituality parading as authentic Christianity that many current and past tele-vangelists are hawking. I am somewhat reminded of the spiritual tradition I came out of when I hear this guy and others like him talk.
