Del Allan: Victus in Deus

Notes from the Journey

Slowing…Waiting…Listening

>The last few weeks for me have been about slowing, waiting, and listening. In many ways this period has been forced upon me; for a man of action and sustained planning, there is something humbling about being told you are going to spend six days in hospital for tests and treatments ‘to find out what ails ye’, and that there is nothing you can do to ‘fix’ it. Indeed, the evening I was admitted to hospital I was launching an initiative at our parish that I been planning months for, and there was going to be a full house waiting there for me.

The parish activity went on as planned, with my overseer filling in; my high school classes have been taught by a very competent young supply teacher; my Chaplaincy duties tick full steam ahead and things flourish there as well. The professional world of Del has moved on for a short time without him! This is humbling, yes, but for some reason great news to me!

I’ve found that in the work place and in my ministry related endeavours, I am replaceable; I am expendable. In my marriage and in my commitment to family, I am not replaceable. Marianne and I have been praying about what God is teaching me (us) through this experience and, through the potential experiences that may lie ahead.

This morning I meet with my ‘spiritual director’ in Toronto for our regularly scheduled appointment. We will discuss where God is leading. I do rest assured, that God is leading!

Happy New Year!

>

From New Year's Eve 2010

We had a wonderful, simple, Christmas and New Years celebration this year with family. There is no describing how much my sweet wife and my family mean to me.

God bless you this coming year,

Wasaga Five KM

From Lauren and Del’s 5 km 2010

Today Lauren (my neice) and I ran the Wasaga Beach “Island Girl and Guy” 5km run! We had a great time! What a wonderful experience to share Lauren’s first ‘official’ race with her! It is the first of many races with me, I hope! Way to go Lauren, I am so proud of you!

September

>Lots has happened since last I posted on my blog, not the least of which has been completing my Master of Religious Education Degree. It is with a sense of accomplishment that I close the long chapter of my life, which was that twenty course degree. I enjoyed the time spent in study and research full heartedly!

I have been accepted into the Deacon Formation programme with the Archdiocese of Toronto, my seminary studies begin this month! I am looking forward to this course of study, although I believe that it will be challenging.

Both Marianne and I are back in full swing at school, where we continue to learn and grow as we teach.

Peace,
Del

Midsummer Night Run

>

This August I participated for the third year in Toronto's Midsummer Night Run! It's a fantastic 15 km run, commencing at dusk and snaking out along a pier on the waterfront. This year my running partners Ivana and Gord were joined by my nephew Josh and my friend Sr. Jacquie Okeef. What a blast!
